June has finally arrived. That means it’s time for graduation, summer, and picnics! Picnic food has always been a favorite of mine. But really, what’s there to complain about when you’re munchin’ on Italian cold cuts, potato salad, macaroni salad, and watermelon?

Nothing really. Except for the fact that picnic food isn’t exactly the healthiest! Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make your picnics healthier. (more…)

Refresh on the Run

As a college student, I often find myself getting tired of the narrow selection of dining locations available on campus when I need to grab a quick lunch in between classes (not to mention an even narrower selection of healthy options). Sure, I can name at least five different campus restaurants that specialize in sandwiches (hey, I even worked at one!), but my college-budget wallet and my body can’t handle buying those high-calorie sandwiches every day. When I was asked by Student Health 101 to produce a video about healthy lunches that students could pack for the day, I was quick to choose a sandwich that never fails to please: the Caprese. The Power of the Chinois: Anti-Inflammatory Ingredients

Whenever I go to Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica, I go straight to Wolfgang Puck Express to get his famous Chinois Chicken Salad, which he regularly serves at his Asian fusion restaurant, Chinois (also located in Santa Monica). Unlike the typical Chinese chicken salad, which has a sweet vinegar dressing, Wolfgang Puck’s dressing has a kick to it, which comes from the use of ground mustard. Not only does the ground mustard add a spicy twist to the salad, but it is also good for improving your metabolism by stimulating digestion. (more…)

Like A Big Pizza Pie, That’s Amore!

Now that the chaos of finals week is finally over, I am happy to be blogging about my food adventures again. I began my winter break with a quick and delicious pizza dinner prepared by my friend, Natasha, and her boyfriend, Mike. I have always seen the fresh, ready-to-bake pizza dough at Trader Joe’s but I have never been daring enough to make my own pizza with it as I’ve heard both good and bad things about it. Natasha and Mike have used TJ’s pizza dough multiple times now and have had nothing but success with it, so I would definitely recommend trying it. It’s something fun to make with a group of friends, too! (more…)
